SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA6) -- A resolution has been passed by the local Sangguniang Panlalawigan requesting Secretary Manuel A. Roxas of the Department of Transportation and Communication to recommend that the Evelio B. Javier Domestic Airport located at San Jose de Buenavista, Antique be the flight destination of local airlines in the country.
In the document ,it states that a lot of Antiqueños come and go to Manila several times a month for business transactions, aside from personal purpose which need urgent action.
Including the province of Antique in the flight destination of local airlines in the country would also encourage investors and tourists to come and visit the place which would surely contribute to added income for the province.
Antique has an existing airport with facilities that has been upgraded and improved and also evaluated as technically ready for operations. In fact in 2004, the Asian Spirit and later, ZestAir had its flight operations in the said airport, servicing passengers from Antique to Manila and vice versa.
However, due to lack of passengers patronizing the airlines, it resulted to losses to the airline companies and eventually, airline operations ceased.
But present developments such as the transfer of Iloilo airport to Cabatuan made most Antiqueños value the advantage of having a flight operation in Antique because of the travel distance and cost to Iloilo airport.
To assure passenger patronage, the members of SP on motion by Rosie A. Dimamay and seconded by all municipal mayors and their constituents in the province, pledged to support and patronize the Antique-bound flights to and from Manila in order to have sustainable airport operations.
Further, businessmen are also encouraged to support this move because after all they are the ones who will be most benefited by this petition.(JCM/MLG-PIA 6, Antique)
