Iloilo City (4 March) -- Scholars of Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo training for Work gathered at the Iloilo Airport to thank President Arroyo the other day.

According to Ms. Gina Sophia Mondejar, School Administrator of New Lucena Polytechnic College, the welcomers are students of Household Services National Certificate level 2, and Shielded Metal Arc Welding.

The New Lucena Polytechnic College is a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) supervised school.

Ms. Mondejar said that the government's program through TESDA Director General Augusto Syjuco helps contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic status of the youths and other unemployed people.

She said that through technical education and skills development, TESDA helps enhance employment capability for these students for jobs here or abroad.

"That is the reason why these students were grateful to welcome President Arroyo at the Iloilo Airport," Mondejar said.

Secretary Syjuco said in one of his messages that the government responded quickly and appropriately to address global economic challenges by developing the country's human resources inorder for them to become globally skilled workers, and that "is our answer to improving the economy". (PIA 6)
